How to Track Hyperliquid Whales
Hyperliquid is the easiest venue in crypto to watch whales on: every position is public. It is also easy to watch them badly. Copying one famous wallet is how most people lose money doing it. Here is a more useful approach.
What you can see about a Hyperliquid whale
- Open positions: market, side, size, entry and leverage.
- Liquidation price and how far the current mark price is from it.
- Orders: including TWAP orders that execute over hours or days.
- History: past trades, PnL and how the wallet behaved in similar conditions.
Why following one wallet is a bad signal
- You don't see the hedge. A big long on Hyperliquid can be one leg of a position hedged elsewhere.
- Survivorship. The wallets that go viral are the ones that won recently, not the ones with an edge.
- Timing. By the time a position is famous, the good entry is gone.
Four things worth tracking instead
1. Distance to liquidation
A whale sitting 2% from liquidation is a level the market knows about. Price is often drawn there, and the forced close can move the market. Tracking distance to liquidation across many large positions is more useful than tracking any single PnL.
2. Clusters of positions
When several whales have liquidation prices in the same zone, that zone matters far more than any one of them. Clusters are where cascades start.
3. TWAP orders
A large TWAP is a whale announcing that it will buy or sell a fixed amount over a fixed time. That is predictable pressure you can plan around. See our guide on TWAP orders.
4. A curated watchlist
Some wallets (funds, market makers, insiders) are worth watching all the time. The goal is a short list with history behind it, not a feed of every big trade.
How to react when a whale alert fires
- Size vs. liquidity. How big is the position relative to the market's open interest and daily volume?
- Context of the wallet. What did it do last time it opened something similar?
- Look for confirmation. Are other large wallets doing the same thing, or is it one outlier?
- Know the levels. Where are the nearby liquidation clusters on both sides?
- Don't copy blindly. Use whale activity as context for your own plan, with your own invalidation.
FAQ
Can you see whale positions on Hyperliquid?
Yes. Positions are on-chain, so size, side, entry, leverage and liquidation price are public for every wallet.
Is copy-trading Hyperliquid whales a good idea?
Usually not on its own. You don't see hedges elsewhere and you enter late. Distance to liquidation and clusters are more useful signals.
What is a whale near-liquidation alert?
An alert when a large position drifts close to its liquidation price, before it is liquidated.
